Secondary CO2 diffusion following HCO3- shift across the red blood cell membrane.
In order to clarify the interaction between CO2 diffusion and HCO3- shift in the red blood cell (RBC), HCO3- shift was measured by using a stopped flow method combined with fluorometry. When HCO3- entered the RBC, the intracellular PCO2 increased, causing a secondary outflow of CO2. Conversely, when HCO3- ions flowed out of the RBC, the resulting decrease of PCO2 caused an inward CO2 diffusion....
متن کاملAllogeneic Red Blood Cell Transfusion Following the Total Hip Arthroplasty Triggers the Immunomodulatory Responses
Background and Aims: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a common orthopedic surgery. The main focus in the research of THA is immune responses in these patients following the blood transfusion. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the immune modulation indexes such as T cell amplification, Tcell surface markers and also production of cytokines in the patients undergoing THA surgery following bloo...
متن کاملPhosphorylation of the Red Blood Cell Membrane
The phosphorylation of red blood cell membrane fragments (RBCMF) during Ca ++ transport was investigated. When red cell membrane fragments are incubated with [y-a2P]ATP under the experimental condition which minimizes the phosphorylation of Na+-K+-ATPase, RBCMF are labeled in the presence of Mg ++ without Ca ++. When Ca ++ is added, the labeling decreases due to dephosphorylation of RBCMF. The ...
متن کاملThe relationship between anion exchange and net anion flow across the human red blood cell membrane
The conductive (net) anion permeability of human red blood cells was determined from net KCl or K2SO4 effluxes into low K+ media at high valinomycin concentrations, conditions under which the salt efflux is limited primarily by the net anion permeability. Disulfonic stilbenes, inhibitors of anion exchange, also inhibited KCl or K2SO4 efflux under these conditions, but were less effective at low...
متن کاملFaster lactate transport across red blood cell membrane in sickle cell trait carriers.
The physical and physiological behavior of sickle cell trait carriers (AS) is somewhat equivocal under strenuous conditions, although this genetic abnormality is generally considered to be a benign disorder. The occurrence of incidents and severe injuries in AS during exercise might be explained, in part, by the lactic acidosis due to a greater lactate influx into AS red blood cells (RBCs). In ...
